How-to Fix a Dripping Tap
Important Things to do before you start:
-
Switch off the water supply to the tap.
-
Check if your tap has rubber washers or ceramic discs. If your tap handle only rotates a quarter of half a turn it uses ceramic discs. If the handle rotates more than this it uses rubber washers.
-
Check is the ceramic disc is manufacturer specific before buying a replacement.
-
If it has a ceramic disc you will need to replace the entire valve, if it is a rubber washer then you only have to replace that.
-
If you have any issues that you can't fix we suggest you call a professional for help.
Step 1: Turn off the water supply by locating the stop tap.
Step 2: Using a flat head screwdriver, remove the red and blue indicator from the tap.
Step 3: Hidden behind the red and blue indicator will be a small grub screw. Using a 2mm Allen Keg loosen the screw until the tap handle can be removed.

Step 4: Unscrew the chrome collar to reveal a large nut.
Step 5: Loosen the nut using plumbing grips then unscrew by hand.
Step:6: Now it is time to replace the ceramic cartridge. This is really simple. All you need to do is pull it out of the tap.

Step 7: Before fitting the new cartridge it is a good idea to clean the inside of the tap. Make sure to clean out the screw thread as this is where a lot of grime and grit gathers.
Step 8: After checking that the lugs on the new cartridge match up with the holes inside the tap, fit it inside the tap.
Step 9: When the cartridge has been replaced, screw everything back together and then turn the water supply back on.
